Meet Olivia Smith

A Lifetime in the Saddle

Olivia Smith grew up with horses in her blood — raised in the UK in a family where horsemanship was a way of life, not just a hobby. From her earliest years, she competed across disciplines, developing a deep understanding of both horses as athletes and riding as an art form.

After making her home in Virginia, Olivia brought that multi-generational knowledge to the American hunter/jumper world. Her coaching philosophy centers on developing the complete equestrian: building genuine confidence, correct position, feel, and the kind of quiet partnership with horses that only comes from truly understanding them.

"I don't just teach people to ride — I help them learn how to think like a horseman," Olivia says. "When a student understands why we do things, not just how, they become real riders for life."

"My goal is for every student — whether they're six years old or sixty — to leave each ride feeling more capable than when they arrived."

— Olivia Smith

Olivia's approach spans all levels: from the tiniest beginners discovering their balance atop a patient pony, to competitive riders preparing for IEA meets and eventing courses. Every lesson is thoughtfully tailored to where each student is in their journey.

The Property

A Home for Horses & Riders

Set on 25 beautiful acres in Round Hill, Virginia — just a short drive from Middleburg — Serene Acres Riding Center has grown from a modest 8-stall barn into a thriving 30-stall facility that serves riders across Northern Virginia and the DC metro area.

That growth wasn't accidental. It reflects the community that has formed around Olivia's teaching, a place where students come back year after year and where parents drop their kids off knowing they're in the very best hands.

The facility features a full-size outdoor sand arena with proper footing, a covered grooming and tacking area, well-maintained paddocks for daily turnout, and a barn environment that prioritizes the health and happiness of every horse in residence.

How We Teach

Developing Riders
from the Ground Up

Every rider at Serene Acres gets personal attention and a program designed around their specific goals, whether that's a confident Sunday trail ride or competing in the show ring.

Olivia's hunter/jumper background means students develop exceptional flatwork foundations before ever approaching a fence — the kind of technical grounding that makes horses and riders safer, softer, and more effective together.

For competitive students, Serene Acres supports IEA team participation and eventing, giving riders the experience of real competition in a structured, supportive team environment.

Behind the Scenes

The Family Behind the Farm

Building Serene Acres into what it is today has been a true family effort. Victor has been an essential partner in growing the operation from its early days — handling the countless details of running a working farm that make it possible for Olivia to focus on horses and riders.

From facility maintenance and improvements to the day-to-day logistics that keep a busy equestrian center running smoothly, Victor's contribution to Serene Acres runs deep. The facility's growth from 8 to 30 stalls is a shared achievement and a testament to what a committed team can build.
